Frequently Asked Questions

What is a SWC interface?

SWC is an acronym standing for Steering Wheel Control. An SWC interface is a module that connects a vehicle’s OEM steering wheel controls with an aftermarket headunit or radio replacement unit.

Why do I need a SWC interface?

PAC SWC interfaces let you retain the function of OEM steering wheel controls after the factory radio has been removed and replaced with an aftermarket model. In some cases, our SWC interfaces even support factory installed features like Bluetooth™.

What makes PAC SWC interfaces better than the competition?

PAC pioneered the OEM steering wheel control (SWC) category back in the 1990’s, and continues to set the standard for quality, reliability and ease of installation. PAC holds three US patents for SWC interface engineering and is looked to by the mobile audio and electronics industry as the “go to guys” for SWC interface innovations.

What SWC interface do I need for my vehicle?

Our SWC interfaces are designed to work with most major automobile makes and models, as well as most aftermarket radios currently available. Specific applications can be found in the most recent PAC catalog, as well as on this website. For a PDF applications table, click here.

Will I need other parts or modules to retain all my radio functions?

In some cases, you will need an additional radio replacement interface to retain certain premium factory features (ie: OnStar®, SYNC®, video display control). All PAC SWC interfaces are designed for quick, seamless, plug-and-play installation with other popular PAC (and select Peripheral) branded radio replacement solutions.

I don't see my vehicle listed on the application guide. Can I still use the SWC interface?

If you vehicle does not appear in the application guide, then it is either incompatible or our R&D technicians have not yet verified that specific make/model/year of vehicle with the SWC interface in question.  We update our applications database daily and work very hard to validate new vehicles as they become available.

Can one button be programmed to do more than one function?

No, each button can only be programmed to do one specific function. In some vehicles, the button that controls “track-up” for the CD player will also do “preset-up” when in AM/FM mode. This is not possible with our module, as the SWC module has no way of telling which mode the aftermarket radio is in. When adapted to the aftermarket radio the SWC interface’s “track-up” command will perform track up on the CD/iPod/USB sources and “tune-up” when in the AM/FM mode.

What if I need installation help or instructions?

You’re in luck, because both are just a click or a phone call away. You can download PDF files of any or all of our SWC interfaces by visiting the Downloads section of this website. Additionally, you can use the SWC Toolbox to find a bunch of helpful information, including programming instructions, wiring diagrams and a SWC resistance calculator. Additionally, PAC tech support is available six days a week at 866-931-8021.

What warranty do your SWC interfaces come with?

All PAC SWC products carry a one (1) year warranty against defects in workmanship or materials, not including normal wear and tear or abuse of the product. All PAC products are warranted to be free from defects prior to installation. This warranty only applies to original purchasers of PAC products from a PAC dealer. PAC will only replace or repair warranted items that receive a RA number from PAC customer service, and all returns must be accompanied by a proof of purchase from an authorized PAC dealer. Any modification or improper use of a PAC product will void this warranty. The PAC warranty does not cover installation or damages caused by installation. Proper installation and use of PAC products will not void any automaker warranty.
